Cool! Wowza, has to be about 20+ years back; JL models. Neat to see the old school way RIC used to rout and shape the bodies. :D

Even though my Japanese is rusty (I learned all I know from Shogun the mini-series) that was a cool video. :D

Thanks for posting that Graham. I wonder who was playing the 381/12V69 string in the opening segment? Does anyone know who that was?

Interesting video. .. and fun to see inside the factory at RIC.

Here's what struck me!

I live a few hours away from Bend, Oregon - where Breedlove Guitars are built.. Excellent, high quality hand made acoustic guitars here in Oregon.

I've gone to their facility a few times.

Over the years as Breedlove grew, they occupied more and more ( rented ) space in a small building complex.. basically a series of adjoining rooms. They crammed every step of the building process into these series of rooms. When taking the factory "tour", at times you had to move sideways between adjoining stations.. band saws, binding application, tone bar gluing , sanding stations etc.

About a year ago, they built an entire building dedicated to Breedlove ( business must be good! ) - and what struck me was: in the actual guitar building areas ( not the lobby, or the showroom, etc ) -- they STILL are cramped - from work station to workstation. very tight quarters.

By comparison - this RIC video has football fields of space between work areas! How nice they can afford the room for a comfortable environment !

Amazing video, thanks for sharing!

I'm just curious about the process of doing the frets though!

Usually in production you would lay all the frets first, then tap them all down to save time.

To lay one fret, pick up hammer, tap one fret down, lay down hammer, lay one fret, pick up hammer, tap one fret down, lay down hammer... is slow, and tedious.

Sorry to be picky, just wondering why :?

Hopefully it's done differently nowadays. :)

I think this is an understatement. When he was talking he literally appears to be hugging his Rick.

Let me emphasize that this video was done a very long time ago and while there are familar faces, everything else has changed greatly. Virtually all the equipment has been modernized, work flow rearranged, and processes upgraded.
