Hi Cassius, I know you were big on the Fender flats a while back. Now that you have been using them for a while you still liking them? If so, what gauge are you currently using and why?

I use the Fender 9050CL set, which hasn't been released mainstream yet. It is the same as the 9050L set but the E string is a bit bigger/tighter, to match the others better.

I love this flatwound set. It has a very "natural" feel to me, take that for what you will, and in addition the sounds it produces are exactly what I have been after all this time as far as flats are concerned. Not to mention they are cheap! So I hope that helps. Unlike many other popular flats, trying these out isn't a big risk, as most of the time you can get them under $20.

Thanks Cassius. Do you know when the Cl set will be in production? Sometimes I like a bit of the growl you get with the rounds. Can you still get similar sounds with the flats on the rick, Or is it always going to be solid fundamentals? I put a set on my churches new precision bass and they got incredible bottom end, the kind of bottom you can't get with rounds. Incredible for the motown sound, but not exactly slap bass high end! Besides church I play classic rock and blues mostly, But on the same token I love the Squire, Geddy sound. Is it possible to get anywhere near that type of sound with the Fender flats?

I think the only thing flats ever lack is that Squire-esque ultra clank, and the Marcus Miller sound. Other than that I've heard them do pretty much everything with aplomb.
