That photo ws heavily retouched to disguise the Rickenbacker script. Note the phony highlights along the edges of the headstock. I'm guessing that the black paint on the headstock was badly chipped by then, as well, so time for a bit of sprucing up...

Thanks Paul that sorts out the TRC question for me quite well. I think The Beatles did a pretty bang up job of this song. Many bands that I ran across in the early 60's that played the song used this very same arrangement.

Speaking of obscure Beatles songs.... check out George's guitar on this one. The way they overlap the lead with melody is great.

Arthur Alexander released this song, "Where Have You Been All My Life", in 1961. Written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, it is sometimes erringly credited to Gunter or Gunther who wrote a different song by the same name. This song, originally done by Arthur Alexander, has been redone by a number of artists- sometimes as "Where Have You Been" or "Till We Kissed"- including The Searchers and Chad Allan & the Expressions (that later evolved into the Guess Who). This version is by the Mistissini Basement Rats- John Benac on lead guitar, Ken Baillie on rhythm guitar, Bjorn Olsen on keyboards, and George Oblin on vocals.
The original is pretty slow.... It's always interesting to hear the version that the Beatles had listened to.

What was it about the Beatles that they could play basically the same thing as other bands but somehow inject so much energy?
Wouln't be great to go back in time and sit around with the Fabs when they listened to this for the first time?
