Blue Burst Questions

Post by jack1953 »

What years did they make the blue burst 4003s?

Do they look similar to the Fireglo design in person?

I would think they would be more attractive in person than the midnight blue?

Blueburst (BBR) was the Color of the Year for 2005. However, the way the COY worked was that you had that calendar year to order your instrument in that color. That didn't mean you would get your guitar/bass that year, or that the instrument would be built that year, or even started that year. Depending on the model you ordered, you could have a BBR from 2005 through 2008. My Blueburst Cheyenne II has a November 2008 date on it, and I received it in January 2009. This was mostly due to the backlog of orders that RIC enjoys, and that production of the Cheyenne II and Laredo basses seems to be accomplished in batches with long periods of time in-between.

The idea of Blueburst is much the same as Fireglo (and a few other colors) in that it is a burst of blue, light in the middle, dark on the edges.

I have a 360-12 Blueburst dating to late 2004. Could have been made for NAMM. Appears to have John Hall's signature on the pickguard. That's my dog, Karma, counting the strings . . .

If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

Was the Blue Burst originally made in the 50's or 60's for a female recording artist ?

Oh and my BBR :)

It appears that the Blueburst finish was originally made for two instruments presented to Mary Chapin Carpenter in 2001: http://www.rickenbacker.com/news_item.a ... 8&news=old

If you are referring to Blue Boy, however, that would go back to the instruments made for Jim Reeves and the Blue Boys in the late '50s, early '60s (photo at page 109 of Smith book).

At first glance I thought it was a 4001 C64

I almost lost my mind.

Looks like you installed an over-sized pick-guard on that too. Very nice indeed. :D

Nice one, Brian. Like the Toaster in the 1/2" position, too.
