Pender's "Album That Never Was"

Post by admin »

Roy Clough has submitted another nice article to Needles and Pins. You can see it here.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

One of my favourite songs on Clough's "Album That Never Was" is Needles and Pins 90. This is a great remake and Pender does an outstanding job on the vocals. I do miss the jangly guitar, however. Nonetheless, the lead vocal and background harmonies are well crafted.

I have had the opportunity to ask Mike about this song and he mentioned that the main vocal track was put down after a single take with just a couple of additional takes used for the background vocals. I just when you can sing like Pender a song like this rolls off the tongue easily.

I think that Roy's selections are great and would make a good album for Pender at this stage in his career. I suspect, however, that it is not likely to materialize as I am not sure if there is a record company that would take the risk after a few less than successful runs at it.

A new Pender album is a nice dream to ponder as the last days of summer slip by.
