i like it! from here on out it will be considered whiskyglo.

I'll take this time to thank eric again for doing such a great job refinishing the bass. when i bought the bass in 1999 it was jetglo and then a few years back had it refinished.

Very nice bass and color! And, I STILL like the looks of the inlays. My 2004 is like that and granted they don't go all the way across but the material is really nice.

Since the bass has flat wounds strings on it, I wanted to keep the mute, and modded the tailpiece differently in that area than it the past....

What pickup is under the hood, Dane? If the HB1, how is it doing covering the 5 strings?

The stock HB1 is under the hood and covers all 5 strings just fine with the 60mm center to center B to G spacing. Using the readily available Schaller 496 5-string bridge is what causes a problem there as it specs out at 64mm and pushes the strings to close to the edge of the neck anyway. Using the 4003 tailpiece and 5-string bridge insert enables me to custom slot the widest spacing for the best string response without having to rely on an available part that's a compromise sound wise. I've done 5 basses now this way with no issues. Playability is quite good, and spacing is still 5/16" wider than a stock 4003S/5.

OK, I'll revive this thread as just another place to show off my latest attempt at customizing. Yeah, it's not a huge deal to change the pickguard and TRC, but I think it came out rather well.

Thanks to Dane "aceonbass" for trading my old white TRC for the new silver on black and Tony at Pickguardian for the new black pickguard!

Stunning. The newish darker-edged Fireglo looks great with black plastic.

I'd go with a wider guard and half-inch spacing:

This one's actually Amber Fireglo. I really did think about going for 1/2 inch spacing, but that would take removal of some wood. Perhaps in the future...

CJ, send it to me. I'll give it a go to see if it needs the 1/2" position or not!
