I see one pop up for sale 3 or 4 times a year. So if the one you find now is not exactly the way you like it, another will indeed come along.

For what it's worth, Olivia's has one that they been trying to sell for well over a year now. I think the high price may be the reason why they've had it for so long.
IF I remember correctly, that particular CS belonged to Rudy Sarzo and is a VERY LOW production number.

Low production number, like # 3? They don't get much lower than that! I don't think I'd pay any extra for the celibrity pedigree (nothing against Rudy, but he's not really known as a "Ric guy"), but that is a pretty clean example, and I really love the headstocks on the CS - the chrome on vintage white with Vermillion wings combo just looks so right.

Just out of curiosity, what is a fair price for a good example?

Based on the last 12 ebay sales, the average price is around $3200. Latest sales are at the top; click on any listing and see the sales chart at the bottom: http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... 14&order=7

Existence of COA sometimes factors into price. Some recent sales have had mods, replaced 'guard, playing wear.

I seem to recall nice examples going for $4K+ in the 2007 era.

Sure they do, just ask Pete Greenwood.  Look at Chris with a sig model in the official RIC poster to see Pete's bass.

YEARS ago, they hit $5500.00 and one for $7500.00. I saved the Ebay print outs for my Insurance Company. They wanted a "reference" and at that time, that's what they were bringing. I still have the info if anyone is interested. .

I spoke with the owner some time ago about the Sea Green V63. Pleasant individual. From what I gather, they are an upfront and reputable dealer. Their prices, in my humble opinion, are a tad high.

People must pay it, or negotiate it down to where it's agreeable. I've seen some nice gear move in and out of their inventory. Whatever works.
If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

Yes, they are known to be decent, above board folks, and willing to deal, in some cases anyway. Yeah, their prices are high, but then, they've got some pretty darned good guitars too...

They seemed to have developed a fondness for Fender Coronado basses. They have a lot of 'em.

I had one. I'm still trying to figure out the reason why I bought it. Just wasn't my thing I suppose.

One thing to consider when looking for a 4001CS is that there were two different "versions" on these. The earlier one had the correct 60's headstock shape and bridge pickup surround. The later one had the same headstocks as the '97-up 4003's and a surround similar to what was on the C64's. I've also seen some that had the early headstock with the later surrounds. In my opinion, the earlier one is more desireable. The easy way to tell is by whether or not the truss rod cover stops 3/4" or so from the edge of the headstock or not. The later ones had a shorter headstock with the more bulbous cresting wave, so the truss rod cover goes all the way to the end. This applies to the V63's too.

I didn't even know Rudy Sarzo existed until I saw that bass at Olivia's. Number three would be cool to have, however...
