Nice 8-string!!!! Looking at it, I thought it was a 4003s8. But it has been identified as a 4008.

How do you tell the difference????

A 4008 has binding, non-rickenbacker stringing (octave first), a slightly different headstock, a two piece neck and early 4003 type trussrods (reversed 4001 rods), slightly more skeletial tailpiece and will have the bass cut cap in place. I can't be certian but the 4008 may have been the beginings of the 4003....
