About the horseshoe, do you think the covers are shaped differently, or just positioned differently?

Having just purchased a Fireglo C64, I am enjoying learning more about my new baby from this informative thread.
Also, which version is most like an actual 1964 horseshoe?
And please forgive my lack of expertise here, but are the covers simply covers (removable?), or they actually an extension of the pickup magnet?

Here are some really cool and informative threads regarding the horseshoe and high-gain pickups, covers and all!

It's my understanding that you can remove the metal cover (plastic on the high-gain) without it impeding the sound/tone quality. They are more for show than function, unlike the originals from way back in the day.

I see a C64 in each color, a black C64S, a natural C64S, and backup FG and MG C64 basses "just in case".

I wouldn't call that hoarding! To each his own. I like all mine different, but that's just me. Next on my list is a C64S.

I beg to differ, sir. In 2003 I bought my 4001C64S for $1600. If I listed it in an open ebay auction tomorrow, I think we would find that it's value has indeed gone up from when it was new.

Who can tell what they will be worth in 10 years? It was about 8 years ago when you could buy a 4002 for $800. Maybe less. Hoarding would would insinuate that the collector would be making it difficult other potential buyers to purchase one. There are several C64 and C64S models new and used, up for sale.

No difference in tone that I can hear. But the same applies with respect to the zero fret on the C64S.
