Bridge tilt

Post by MyBBruce »

I have just recently purchased 2 Ricenbackers that came setup from Dealers. A 350v63 and a 620. In both cases the Original strings from the factory were still on. I couldn't help but notice that although very slight .There is some forward lean of the bridge. Taking the strings off reveals that the bridge rocks back and forth a tad. This can be corrected by raising the front side (technically turning the front post clockwise- about a 1/2 turn) ever so slightly to eliminate the rocking of the bridge in the base.

When Stringing it you still have to hold the bridge to level. Once you tighten the outside strings your good to go. I was able to get the bridge perfectly level.

I do question if this is the right thing to do. Especially after just getting 2 new guitars, where this lean was the same in each.. I'm sure they were factory setup. Could it be this slight lean forward is Rickenbackers level? Am I making a mistaking getting the bridge 100% level?

I looked at my other Rics to see. They all seem to have this slight lean forward. Keep in mind this is very slight, but you can see it with the naked eye.

Some clarification would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Level is preferable, but a slight lean in either direction is OK, as long as there is no buzzing or sitar-like sound from any of the strings.
