Autumnglo

I was browsing the register - is Autumnglo something that really spans such a big range of colours that it goes from Amber Fireglo all the way to Walnut?
Or are there many items that simply got tagged as Autumnglo but are really another colour?

There are undoubtedly errors in the register with respect to Autumnglo, Fireglo, etc., especially with "CI" (collected item) instruments. Many times all one has to go on when entering something seen on ebay or similar places are the pictures, which often are rather poor. So, it becomes a bit of a guess as to what the color really is...

AutumGlo is my favourite color, although I could be just a tad biased..

Some have a really reddish color to the burst, and some are more brownish.

Is it just me or do the pictures in the registry show the basses mainly going more towards brown (like Brian's), and not often towards red?

Thomas, yours is the very first instrument that made me rethink "glo". I've always just been drawn to the color sprayed on the outside edges of the intrument- I've never really noticed prior to your pictures, that the CORE area of the instrument, where the bare wood shows through, is the part that's actually "glowing". You've ruined it for me.

From now on I'll be seeing the color as the "background" and the "glo" as the bare wood coming through at the heart of the instrument.

(On second thought, maybe it was the eggnog.)

Fantastic guitars and Autumnglo colours, Thomas. I cannot recall seeing Rickenbacker guitars of this colour for sale in Europe anytime in at least the last year.

I guess the photos just reinforce my own view that the best Ric colours are those which allow the natural grain of the wood to show through, even in part.

My impression is that there are at least a couple of different eras of autumnglo and that they do span quite a range. Plus there is always the autumnglo vs. walnut issue!

Great looking bass - the black hardware really fits into the dark brown lacquer with a good contrast from the binding.
I think black binding would not have looked as good as it looks now as it is.

Autumnglo vs. walnut can be very confusing. Comparing pictures in the register shows that either lots of people get confused like me or that the colours can be very close. I always assumed walnut was a plain colour, not going darker towards the edge, but unsure these days if that's actually true?

Searching the forum brought so many references to both colours, but couldn't find a thread where these colours are actually compared.
Would be nice to put a picture of same model, same year next to eachother where we know absolutely sure one's Autumnglo and the other's Walnut.

Note the color is the same hue, but the Autumnglo (left) is more heavily applied. You can just barely see the "satin" finish on the Autumnglo."

Now, that picture is interesting - I see the difference pointed out, but if you'd hand me one of those without the other in sight it would be very difficult to judge them with a non-expert eye for it.
