vintagemusicgear wrote:Interesting, so birch and alder are related....they look very similar and both sound great. So whether the capris are birch or alder is kind of academic to me. They are among the best looking and best playing capris I ever had. Ive had a lot of maple ones which are great too, but I prefer the alder/birch ones with flame....
I agree that its just a little footnote detail, not the end of the world. It's still fun to have an excuse to discuss Capri's! :)

Were any of your flamed ones stereo? When did that first show up on the Capri's? Also, I noticed some have the single brace going from the control cavity to the top of the body, by the soundhole. Did most of yours have this, or were some X-braced?
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

I haven't seen this too much; it's maple and figured like the Capris. Gorgeous.

i have recently seen stock of local maple that was cut down in like early 50's and it is at the furniture restoration shop of a friend of mine for at least 20 years or more...those were the trees that gave boards that are big enough to make 381 body and neck in one piece if someone wanted to do that & the figures in that wood are just amazing but with that comes the heft too.. i took just a small scrap piece to play with and maybe make bridge for single cone resonator from it and my very sharp rasp barely made any marks on it..
