The most exciting thing at the Gibson booth was the Steinberger Spirit.

This tells me there was not much to report, or else no one has their laptop to upload any photos or post. Not exciting news but could be good for the backlog and production improvements... that seems to have been 2010's trend. I think of my 2010 4003 as a testament to how good a year it was for RIC as far as QC. It's about as flawless a bass as I've ever had.

Fender is doing a 60th Anniversary P Bass and I can't say I find that terribly exciting either. It's basically just another P Bass with a few visual tweaks. If that's the major alternative then I strongly prefer RIC to stick to fighting the backlog.

Pretty much sounds like the same thing that has been done with the 4003 and ltes not forget the 75th anniversay bass, that was an extreme ttweaking of a 4003. gold plastic and a different color, I didnt bite, bought a midblu 2006 4003, brand new that year, same bass, different color finish and plastic...and saved a ton of money

Maybe its something so ground-breaking ,innovative, spectacular and that the visual experience is just so freaking over-whelming that everyone is still in shock and cant function rationally.

Or maybe not.

Ok enough ribbing and kidding around, honestly, I really dont have a problem with the fact no new basses or guitars will be unvieled, im very happy with the 4003's ,Larado, Cii, and 3001, and C64 AND V63, I really wished that they would have given us a couple new colors to choose from or at least make the horse shoe pick up available

Pretty much sounds like the same thing that has been done with the 4003.
Yeah but you're missing the point. The changes to the 4003 were gradual and were never named a special edition... it was just the 4003, getting streamlined and improved over the last several years. Prices didn't increase for that model specifically although a price increase across the board happened during this time. As for the 4003 DCM for the 75th Anni, yeah, that was very clearly a special edition--and like you I stayed well away from it. But unlike the 60th Anni P Bass, RIC did something a bit different with a unique finish, if nothing else. The only thing unique about the new P Bass is the neck plate commemorating the anniversary. The rest of it is hodge-podge. I really like P Basses and the Fender legacy so I'm not going after Fender just for general disdain--I think Fender could have done something a lot more fun for their 60th than mix-n-match various vintages.

That's all I'll say about it so I don't derail the thread, but I felt compelled to reply when you compared the 60th Anni P to the gradual changes to the 4003... I don't think there's a similarity there, especially in terms of marketing. In fact, RIC could probably be accused of under-marketing their improvements to the model. (Or not blowing money on advertising when RRF, the corporate forum, and TalkBass do similar things via word of mouth.)

As I had mentioned in the 4004Cii thread in the Basses Forum, the 4004Cii and 4004L necks are like the latest 4003 necks in width and girth. That's good news to some of you guys.

I haven't been by the Ashdown booth yet, however the bass cabinet with the best sound that I'd heard so far today was a new one by Epifani that has a 12" and 10 speakers with a tweeter. I wanted buy it on the spot if I could!
I'll get to the Ashdown booth Saturday or Sunday.
