What about a Ric 330 as first Ric

Hi Guys,

Still on the hunt for a 325, but came across a 330 used for about $1450 in great shape. I would be ordering as no dealers around, but overall what's the thoughts on a 330 vs the 325 (that I want for Beatles music). Also, is that a good price? I can't get into all the features yet on the forum, but working at it. Oh, BTW, I tried, per others recommendations, playing a Fender Squire Jr. to see if I liked a 3/4 neck. Outside of the guitar being a total P.O.S. (can I say that here?) and the neck set wrong, action at about 1/2" I could handle bar cording on the short neck and liked the layout.

A 330 makes a great first Rick. It's all down to preference.

My first Rick was a used 1991 330/12, and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. I got it way back in 1997 for $600, and it still plays and sounds great! Ultimately, you'll have to try different models and trust your ear. Welcome to the forum and good luck in your search!

I'm almost to the magic 30 for postings (hope they didn't change it to 60 at the 1st of the year ). Just missed out on it. I was going to buy the Fireglo one this morning and it's done sold. Only a Jetglo now for $100 more. Is Jetglo typically the highest $ color? I Want a 325 or 320 in Jetglo as my 1st Ric pick.

A 330 is a fine place to start. You get the classic Rick tones without the extra ($) appointments like binding and triangular fretboard inlays. The still look and sound great. 32x models are less common so if you want a deal on one you may have to be more patient. Good luck!

Jack, there are 2 potential problems with a 330 as your first Ric:

• You might like it so much, you abandon your plans to get anything else
• You might like it so much, you give up on food and rent, so you can buy more Rics

I fell into the second trap, myself (well, OK, I continued to pay the rent).

A 330 is a wonderful Rick, first, last or somewhere in the middle. It may be somewhat cheaper than a 360 or so, but that's just got to do with woodwork and finishing but not with sound. Comparing 330's you get small tone differences and also among 360's and between 330's and 360's, but these are MINOR differences. Go for THE SOUND and get that 330. Like someone else said, you problably end up wanting more after your first purchase.

Thanks for all the comments & advice. I'm sold on the notion of a 330. My big questions is this:

Which would you pick for a guitar (if there are any differences that you all with experience know about and me, a no nothing about Ric's want-a-bee, has no clue on)

A 2010 330 for about $1500 used or a 2001 330 for $950. Both Jetglo (would have liked Fireglo somehow as 1st choice).

I could do either. Is one a better year or value than the other?
