Machines?

Post by Bob_Blank »

I've got a '74 ric 4001. I wouldnt sell for the world but its got grover machines (JUNK). Were they standard? Were they added later. They look original but according to what I've read ric didnt use grover in '74?????

They could be original. Ric used these when schaller were unavailable. Any plugged drill holes? Diameter correct not redrilled? If not stock Ric Schaller should go straight on. David Axt would know.

yes we did !!!We used them when the store room stock of Klusons was depleted and they had not sent or they had not yet arrived from kluson.

the other reasons that they could be on are ...
1-the sanders in the woodshop got carried away when they profiled the headstocks
2-the holes were misaligned for the kluson tuners
this is an easy check .Find one kluson and pull off the Grover...If the plate the gears are mounted on hangs off the edge...you have your answer.JH does not like this at all but it is a fact .He was not in the factory and I don't like to argue the point ,but it happened.I was in charge of the assembly area and it happened every once in a while .
This got caught fairly quickly and Dick burke the woodshop foreman would point these basses out to use long before they hit the spray booth.

Is this the first thread in this section? What happened to the person who posted it?

You would have to ask Peter what happened to the OP I am afraid.

Btw Brian if Jeff is correct and you have a lot of time on your hands................I have a few productive things that you could do for us.

It's almost a bit scary when you think about it.

Remember kids, when you post stuff on the Internet it's still gonna be there 11 years later.

Unless a moderator/administrator erases/edits your post for saying something like.....

The thread may be old but still interesting and Mark's post has taught me a couple new things. Thanks for resurrecting it.
