7 screw tailpiece
For those of you who have these, can you post pics of the tailpiece from the underside and the measurements of the back two holes from the stringing end of the tailpiece. Looks like I am going to be drilling holes in the 2 that I have to keep them down...

Re: 7 screw tailpiece
I would consult Dane about this. He drilled two holes in a tailpiece of mine, and I later acquired a genuine 7-screw tailpiece, and the holes I put in the body of my bass to match up with his work *also* match the placement of the screws used by the genuine 7-screw tailpiece. It's a perfect match, so apparently Dane knows really well what he is doing.
Re: 7 screw tailpiece
Jaymi, Gary Clausen (doctorwho) made this template before he drilled his grossly lifted black tailpiece. Template made from an existing 7 hole tailpiece. It is what I used also.
Re: 7 screw tailpiece
No template needed for this. If you flip the TP over you will see two circular casting marks in the corners approximately where they are on Gary's template. Drill your holes right through the center of these from the rear. Be sure to countersink them from the front too. The screws you'll be using are slightly smaller than the other 5 used on the TP.
Re: 7 screw tailpiece
Cool, I will probably flatten them both first and then drill...what was the size of the washer/spacers to put under the middle section to level it off?
Re: 7 screw tailpiece
If you mean where the 3 screws are under the bridge, then whatever thicknesses will fill the void. It varies bass to bass.jaymi wrote:Cool, I will probably flatten them both first and then drill...what was the size of the washer/spacers to put under the middle section to level it off?

I think that I have seen one or two for sale over the years ... unless you find one that has been modified for the extra holes, it is unlikely that you will find a factory original one, as they were 'standard issue' on basses for a short time.petersland wrote:Where can I buy one?
If you are reasonably handy with tools, it's a fairly easy modification. See my photo-filled, step-by-step instruction thread here:

The drilling is just on this page, from start to finish (I started with a severely bent tailpiece, too).

There's one on ebay right now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rickenbacker-1982-C ... 3210wt_674
The seller is known around here as the "Jersey Butcher", a guy who buys and strips guitars to sell the parts. I've heard that sometimes he's not the best one to deal with...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
