Musical Instrument Insurance
Seeing yet another Rick get stolen of from a friend on Facebook and a recent thread about it here as well, has to make people think about maybe getting some insurance especially suited for for musical instruments.
At the NAMM show, I was talking to guys at the Anderson Group LLC. They have insurance specifically for musical instruments for musicians, dealers and collectors.
This might have been posted here before, but since they seemed like pretty cool fellows and one of them said he was a member here. I thought I'd give them a mention.
Based in Florida, they insure instruments world wide.

Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
An RRF member recommended Heritage and I've been very happy... never filed a claim though, whew!
Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
I have Heritage, but like JDog thankfully no claims....
Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
I have a replacement cost rider on my homeowner's policy through The Hartford. However, the rider is for a nonprofessional musician. Any paying gigs would void the rider. But then again, who want to pay me to play.

Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
Members of the Musicians' Union (American Federation of Musicians) are eligible for a group insurance plan through Marsh. We still have to pay for it, but it's not too bad. Worth keeping my union membership up, at any rate! My homeowner policy only covers equipment at home, and the only times I've ever had stuff stolen was at gigs, so I'm glad I've got coverage. My amp got stolen out of a club about twenty years ago--at that time, the policy only covered assessed value, so I got reimbursed for a percentage of the replacement cost rather than the whole thing, but it was still better than nothing. They've since gone back to insuring for the declared value, minus the deductible of course.

I've got all my music equipment insured on my home policy. I've even got cover for everything whilst I'm gigging and at our rehearsal rooms. I only had to specifically name and value any single item with a value over £1500.
It took a bit of sorting, but i'm very happy with the cover.

My homeowner's insurance also covers contents of the car.
If the venue I'm playing in doesn't have a working alarm system , I don't leave anything in overnight.

Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
I have my personal guitars / amps, and the coverage for my guitar business with Heritage. No claims yet, but good people to work with. The insurance itself is through Travelers.

Heritage!
Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
What is Heritage? I'm thinking this is something I need to look into.
Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
There are some previous threads about Heritage Insurance ... use the Search function, there will be useful info as well as testimonials from Forumites. Here is the company's website:

Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
Thanks for the info guys. I'm protected thru my homeowners also but maybe its time to get some specific coverage as the collection grows.
Re: Musical Instrument Insurance
Thanks for the insight. I didn't know such a thing existed. And, there seems to be less and less room to move about in my music room...
