Always great to see this shot, Andy! That fretless looks about as dark as the '64.

nice collection of firewood, wints. what's up with the fender twin style amp knobs on the exposed toaster rick ?
Re: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001
I think the shade of lighting is the factor on that bass Mark, it's that early '73 shade, which is impressive, but not as dark as the '64! Now, that fretboard...walker wrote:Always great to see this shot, Andy! That fretless looks about as dark as the '64.
Ron, I acquired the bass with the witch hat knobs, and at that time had not found the correct securing screws for the toaster!

Re: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001
This bass is 5 numers away from my 360/12, DL 793....no wonder the finishes look similar.Rama wrote:Thanks for all your interest and positive replies. The serial number is DL798. The actual colour is a little lighter than in the photos. The case is original as well but it's a little rough on each end. It still plays great and the neck is true.

Were the black knobs original to your '68, Ron? Andy's '68 has the chrome-top knobs.BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:

The black ones are easier to see in dark stage lighting...

Re: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001
for me, the knobs are just for looks as the controls are wide open at all times. i've never used them and go straight into the amp from the bass, save for switching and tuner.

...+1

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001
I use mine. Otherwise, I would probably bypass them.
Re: 1964 Rickenbacker 4001
I use my toaster volume and prefer the black knobs on stage.
To me the chrome tops look best on a 4001, but the black knobs go great with an "S" body.
