OK. I'll be the one to go out on a limb...

I really wanted to like this movie. I'm a long-time geek and game-hound, even going so far as to have reviewed a game or two for a magazine I worked for at one point in time.

But, this movie really blew chunks *at* me. It was just bad camera angles on top of bad dialog on top of bad acting.

Unless it was supposed to be something like Evil Dead 2 where they were intentionally being dufus dweebs that is.

I want my hour and a half back. My imagination version was so much better than the real thing.

Scott, I had the feeling that I wouldn't like the movie so I didn't bother to go see it. Might be worth a vid rental.

It has its moments; just fast forward through the boring stuff, then reverse if there's something crucial that you miss.

It's all based on a comic series, so you can imagine it being neither realistic nor deep. Just visual fun. It's different, but not memorable.

It really plays off of the newly popularized style of humor in "cartoons for adults" lately that is more about the way the joke is delivered than the joke itself... I found several parts of the movie worth a chuckle, a few parts dramatic enough to keep my attention, and the rest of the time I was just taking in all of the strangeness from how it was filmed. The way the movie wrapped up was one of its most lacking areas though.

I don't know if you can see the 4003 get blown up but it comes back with duct tape all over it. Ultimately it gets replaced by a completely different, Jetglo Ric wielded by a different bassist. Not only that, but the vegan dude's bass part was actually recorded with a Ric, so I'm told, and Scott's part with a Mustang... so I guess I was kind of rooting for the vegan dude by the time I saw the movie. Frankly the way Scott beats the vegan and what follows might be my favorite part in the whole film. Pretty funny, along with the concept of vegan superiority. This is definitely a movie for younger people in a lot of ways.

All I can say is that this movie is now among my top 5 worst movies ever list.

And I do get the whole younger generation joke delivery thing, I can laugh at Dane Cook too... I just don't like him and I just don't like this movie.

It was an insult to my intelligence and yes, I got most of the game/comic humor.

I do reserve the right to change my mind on it... if I can garner up the strength to watch it again.

I rented the movie based on it being directed by Edgar Wright who also directed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and I really enjoyed Scott Pilgrim. I found the dry sense of humor pretty funny and thought that it was a pretty good take on a comic book movie. Some of the photography and styling reminded me of Sin City in the overt use of comic style paneling and the animations added into the shots. It wasn't a major work of art, but then there's plenty of room on my shelf for popcorn movies along with the major cinematic achievements.

I'm not very familiar with Dane Cook but this movie's style of humor reminded me in a lot of ways of the Seth McFarland brand of humor that almost doesn't care whether people find it funny or not, it just plods ahead regardless with rapid-fire references and bucket loads of cynicism. Also, like you said, the video game references and how they were executed was quite derivative of Family Guy.

As far as standup goes I recommend anyone who ever had anything to do with Mr. Show... and Bill Hicks.

Ha! I was cleaning out some old box the other day and found a sticker that says that. I had a good friend who was a vegan when I lived it Texas. I'll give him credit for never complaining when I wanted to go out for BBQ. I would be sitting there tucking into a Flintsontes-size rack of ribs and he would politey eat a plate of fries. I am sure he will live longer than me, but I will be happier, so...

Anyway, the t-shirt I'm still on the lookout for that I saw years ago read "Only you can prevent narcissism". The only problem with it is that those most in need of its message would never notice it!

I watched it with my 12 yr old daughter.. I'm 48... it missed at least our two demographics. We both thought it was stupid. Don't waste your time folks.. I regret I did.. but "too each his own I guess"

In reply to those who say this is for a younger crowd the plot is a direct reference to an old midnight movie called El Topo which was highly stylized and used heavy archtypes to convey the characters in a melodrama style. The references in the comic are deep and just has a light hearted surface. Cynical? Yes. Shallow? No. Dane cook¿ god I hope not!
