Brian, when your base plates come in, could you please post pics of them. The last ones I got looked like black thermo plastic, so I'm wondering if they're different.

It's hard to see detail with that pic, but it looks about the same as the last one. I got a few months ago. I have an order coming from RIC this week with one in it anyway, so I'll be able to see it first hand. I had one of these made from aluminum bar stock for the base plate of a new horseshoe when it becomes available. It'll be going into my '64 4001.

I have a beat '64 4001. DC193. I've been accumulating parts for it for awhile. I have no desire to spend big money on an original HS, so a RHS will be fine with the aluminum baseplate to make it look a little more authentic.

John...I never kid about Ricks! I'm having a lapsteel surround that I cut for the bridge pickup being plated right now. When I get it back, I'll assemble the bass with as many parts as I have and post some pics. I'm missing the pickups, but I have everything else. Many of the replacement parts, like the C64 tuners, are current RIC replacement parts.

You did NOT just call me Dale again...did you you Juan
Actually I won the lapsteel surround by itself on Ebay for $78.00. Unlike the current version, these were chrome plated stamped brass. After a few hours with a Dremmel cut-off disc, some files and sandpaper, I sent it off to SoCal to be replated along with real brass thumbscrews for the mute on this bass. I should have it back by the end of the week. Some of the early basses had the shorter front flange, while this bass had the longer one as evidenced by the screw holes in the bass.

       I have to stop posting from the iTouch, though I did find out how to turn off the autocorrection tonight. SO many times random words are changed to something that doesn't even make sense.

Actually, I can't imagine why it wants to change Dane to Dale? It *usually* leaves capitalized names alone.

We didn't want to say anything, John, but we were getting a bit worried about your sanity.
