Weird one: Toasters with gold screw polepieces

Post by egosheep »

A friend of mine just picked up this cool white 360. It's from 1995. Here are the photos:

The pickups are really weird... toaster covers with Gretsch style gold screw polepieces! I thought they might be Hi Gains with the screws replaced(and a toaster cover), but wouldn't that have a magnet on the bottom? These don't seem to, as you can see the screws. Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Could they be toasters with the magnets removed? Or just something else altogether... :?

Indeed. AFAIK, RIC never made adjustible polepiece pickups, toasters or high gains, until recently with the new adjustible pole-piece high gains.

It's doubtful that those are RIC pickups.

Thanks John. I knew they weren't original, I was just wondering if they were user-modified or something else entirely. I think its clear they are Seymour Duncans(with the gold foil taken out), and I'll pass that info along to my friend.

Looks like a P-90 that has been toasted!

I could not find those pickups on their website Ken. Not that I am doubting your knowledge of course. Perhaps they are discontinued :D

I don't see them either and haven't for a while that is why I wrote in the past tense (made). They were custom shop or specialized pickups. At the time I downloaded the pic SD used the same pic for a humbucking pickup for Ricks along with a P90 for Ricks. If you put your cursor over the pic you will notice it is labeled "p90ricsc.jpg".

I also believe it's an older SD custom shop pickup. They even used to have pictures of their versions of toasters until RIC asked them to remove them due to the trademark on the toaster cover design.
