Noisy 360V64

Post by peter_zelewski »

I've just purchased a beautiful Ric 360V64 6 String in stunning mapleglo. After a full set-up buy my local luthier the action is nice and low but I'm noticing a very high-pitched sound coming from the string saddle area of the guitar (I think). I've tried re-stringing the guitar and raising the action but it still continues. I moved up to 11's when I had the set-up done and I'm hoping the heavier string gauge isn't the cause of the problem. Has anyone else experienced this type of ringing sound coming from the bridge/saddle area of a Ric 360V64?

Is it a warbling sound like a string sounding out of tune with itself?

DOes it sound different through an amp than it does through headphones?

Try shutting off the ceiling fan Image I drove myself nuts with a similar problem on my 330 but it was the fan, not the guitar! (Of course, it could be something else entirely)

Had the same thing happen when I got my 360V64 - and I put .011s on it too. If it sounds like it's coming from the saddle, it's probably is.
I had to replace the G string saddle because of multiple grooves made in it. Soon as I got a replacement the sound went away.
You might not need a whole new saddle though, you can most likely just file it.

Thanks for the sound advice! Funnily enough the noise is most prominent on the G string so I'll spend some time working on the saddle itself before I buy a replacement. Cheers.

I had a problem with the bridge buzzing on my 330 and it turned out to be a loose spring.

My 1997 does the same thing. It's a sort of metallic ringing noise, probably from the tailpiece. When I installed an Ac'cent vibrato, it got even louder.

I don't hear it through the amp, so I haven't worried about it.
