Broken 4001C64 Toaster Pickup (Replacement??)

Hi everybody. I broke my toaster while trying to re-solder the lead. Anybody know whats the exact replacement pup for her? Cheers!!!

Broke how...? If you just shorted it out with excess solder that's totally fixable. And if you truly damaged the coil you can have someone like Lindy Fralin patch it up for you for a lot less than a new Toaster. Just my two cents.

The little screw came out of the pup that the lead solders to. Its damaged & I don't wanna put somebody through a repair job. $150 is fine for a new one....


PS/ I received the bass with an intermittent pup & a tad bit of fingerboard separation.. I've had two 4001C64's within the past 2 months & I've had nothing but trouble with them. Being a Beatles fan definitely has its disadvantages.

Did you buy these used/abused??? That sounds pretty ridiculous. I've never heard of a new Ric bass with those problems. Well, I have heard of intermittent pickup, but it's usually someone with a 4003 who doesn't get Ric-O-Sound.

The only C Series I ever played was a C64S and it was spot-on perfect in fit and finish. Sounded cool too, just not something I was willing to pony up the cash for.

A few other issues with it...



I bought used.. A (2002) 4001C64. I noticed in a few spots on the bass side of the fretboard I can fit my thumb nail in between the fretboard & the neck. I ran my nail across the seam & it started to break through other spots down the neck too. The treble side is better (cant break the lacquer) but I can see the stress line on that side to.

Any rate. I"m kinda bummed out thinking I bought a good bass, but if the fretboard/neck is separating that obviously means I bought a mishandled bass. Any suggestions to tell if there's any internal damage to thebass from the truss rods literally pushing the fretboard & neck apart (I'm guessing this is what happened)? Or is this pretty much a lost situation? I'd like to fix the cracks & repair it as good as possible. Any advise on sealing them up & trying to make things like new again? Thank you for anybodys help.

Kris, it sounds like you bought a Rick that was neglected/mistreated, I had to edit a derogatory statement from one of your previous posts, which was obviously not the case.

I had a similar problem with a toaster on a customer's bass once. Same wire came off and I just couldn't get the wire soldered back properly without it grounding out. I ended up sending it to Sergio (see Winding Up With the Bast foeum here) and not only did he fix it for a very resonable price, but he came up with a neat little wire relief on the bottom of the pickup that would keep it from ever happening again. As far as the separating fretboard goes, I think it's gonna have to be removed and re-glued. At this point, depending on what you paid, you might want to see if you can get your money back.
