Obviously. If someone wants it open, they'll get it open. But personally, I feel more comfortable taking my guitar somewhere and knowing that the average joe can't just pop open the case and have a peek.

Case locks are really only for keeping eager little hands from exploring your guitar, but are a good line of defense from the case lid popping open. I'd go around to every guitar playing friend and ask them if they still have their keys. Most case keys are pretty unsophisticated and will open many different cases. You might also take it to any music store. They should be able to find a key easily.

By the way, Erik, I love your 480 avatar.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

These locks can be picked pretty easily, checkout the dozen online tutorials on youtube.

You might want to have a little talk with your significant other.

:) I didn't pay much attention to cases untill getting the Ric. Even if it's a false sense of security I like knowing that the case wont come open accidentally or at the hands of some curious passer-by.

It's to help keep the case from coming open when transporting. I have more than once bumped the latches in transport and almost dropped an instrument (not just guitars) out of the case.
