Touchy Input Jack on 2009 C64

My C64 has an intermittent problem. When I plug in, the input plug sometimes needs a slap in order for the neck pickup to be engaged with the selector in the center position. One time I had to pull the pickguard and jiggle the wires to get it going. Has anyone else had this problem? The problem never occurs with the horse.

If it only happens in the center position I would check the selector switch.

The holes bored from the inside of the control cavities for the output jacks on Rickenbackers often tend to be pretty tight fits. It's sometimes possible for the jack's inner moving parts to be up against the wood (especially on models with the switched jack in Ric-O-Sound setups) and not able to move properly when you insert the jack. This can result in pickups cutting out. The fix is simply a matter of loosening the nuts on the output jack and rotating the jack a little bit in its hole so that the various parts and blades of the output jack can work and move properly. I don't know whether this is causing your particular problem in this case or not, but any time you start having what appear to be jack-related cut-out problems, it's worth checking.

I ran it on a few songs as Ricktoberfest yesterday and this did the trick. Thanks! Now I'll gig my DCM more!

I've had this same problem on my 2007 360 and 1996 360. The problem wasn't the guitar, it's the 1/4 phono plug on Asian-built cords. High-end and US built plugs are 1/4" (6.35mm). Cables made in Asia frequently have 6mm jacks. They also have different shaped tips that seem to cause problems pushing the tab over on the Ric's mono jack. This problem was driving me crazy till I figured out what was causing it.

I just cleared out the "crackly" ones and they all fell into that category, but I've also had to relax the wiring when putting the pickguard back in place. I keep a short reference cord (1/4" plug but otherwise nothing special, just never caused a problem) to take out a variable.
