Jazz-bo

Post by shamustwin »

Just looking at the Rickenbacker site, and the Jazz-bo appears to have no TRC and reversed fret markers. Is this an accurate image of the guitar? If so, what is the a reason?

That is actually a picture of one of the two '50s 390s.

Here's the Jazz-bo shown at the NAMM show earlier this year in Anaheim:

Looks yummy. Does it have a bound headstock, or is that an optical illusion? I suppose that must be checkerboard binding, too....

Oh man....does it have maple sides, too? The flame maple back and fireglo shading look just like the back of my Comstock, which I absolutely love--the bright, sweet tones of the all-maple acoustic are just unbeatable....nothing else compares. But wow, that checker-bound headstock on the Jazz-bo is sure pretty....such a beautiful, elegant-looking guitar.

For those of you who have had the pleasure of seeing this instrument up close, I am wondering whether the bridge is fixed or floating? It appears to be the latter.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Anybody know the status of the acoustic shop? I'd love to have a Jazz-bo....

One of those in Montezuma brown would be about as good as it gets. What a fine instrument. Anyone know if they've shipped any yet?

Apparently not. I got that information from Mike Parks when I considered an order for a 760J a few months ago. According to Mike, no 760J has been produced for sale. That said, the wait time for any handmade, hand-carved archtop is going to be long. If I had the money, I'd pull the trigger in a heartbeat. And I'd gladly wait for years.

Why is RIC taking orders if they ae not being produced?

I should have said "produced for sale YET". I assume that they'll get to them eventually. The last rumour I heard was that they were next in line behind the 325c64. I imagine that the 760J will take a lot of time to produce, and from what I've read about all the orders flooding in for standard models, time is pretty precious down at Rickenbacker these days.

I'm familiar with the general sound of a dreadnought and a jumbo (non ricks), but not anything close to a Jazz-bo. Would a Jazz-bo have that brushed percussion sound you hear on old big band type music, or more like a Barney Kessel unplugged? Has anyone heard one, what could be expected, sound wise?
