4004/2 v57

Post by coolhandjjl »

Here are a couple of photos courtesy of Dane. If I'm lucky, I'll have 'er in my hands end of week! :D

The only change I'll make is I'll be wearing my Chuck Taylor hi-tops instead.

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

As much as I'm anti blocking up the wood on a 4004, this project turned out much nicer on the eyes than I anticipated. I like it! Being familiar with Dane's mods, I think it should sound as good as it looks. Congrats and enjoy it, John! :)

My 4004 didn't have that nice tiger striping. Nice wood with some very subtle graining, but fairly plain and uninteresting. I tried some Photoshop mock-ups that left more of the body wood exposed, some of you may remember all my attempts that I posted earlier. Unfortunately, they all looked to 'Fender'. Dane was great in taking on this project to keep my bass looking 'Ric'.

Yeah, Dane has a good eye towards the form of the instrument. He oversaw my 4004L8 conversion and improved the headstock in order to keep it 4004ish. It's the little things and Dane has a great eye for detail!

Nice job, Dane!

I like how the pick guard follows the contours of the body.

I dig it, very cool. Something like that might be an option on my problem child early 4004Cii. The rods have to come out and unfortunately the early design doesn't allow for their removal without major surgery on the bass. It's pretty much unplayable as is. On the other hand the maple top has great tiger striping and it would be a shame to hide it.

SCHWING!!!!
I have been wanting to do a 50's model tribute for a while. That looks great, and i think you will love the pickup placement. I would love to hear/see more of the process Dane did on this one. Very very cool!

I want to hear clips--I bet those pickups sound pretty bright and growly like a 4002.

Just talked to Dane, he's shipping it out today. I must confess that I don't know how to record, and seeing that I only started learning bass last year, I'd be embarrassed as the talent on these forums is top flight.
