DR Coated/DR Neons

Post by jack1953 »

Anyone ever tried either the coated or neons? Opinions? Advice?
Thanks,

Hey Jack,

I have a set of DR Black Beauties.

Love 'um!

They have a very thin coat on them, giving them a very thumpy, sort of flat wound sound.
They last forever.

IF you are after a classic Macca sound though, I'd stick with TI's.

I get very little sustain from the Black Beauties, but enjoy them all the same.

So, putting them on the Rickenbacker is probably not a good idea if I love the sustain and growl?

I wonder if the DRs will fit a 35" Peavey?

IDK about the 35" Peavey Jack, I assume you are thinking about putting them on your Millennium?

I don't remember how long they were, I put them on a cheapie Washburn about 3 years ago, and I'm still using them. The pick playing has taken off some of the coating, but they still sound fine. IF you are looking for sustain, I wouldn't recommend these, IMHO....if you want sustain and growl, pass on the Black Beauties.

I have a fresh set of DR Highbeams on my Millennium and just love 'em!

Is you Mill 35"? If so, then the coated should fit mine as well, since they don't specify lengths I would assume they were all the same length. I might even go for a set of neons on my Mill! According to DR site, the coating on those are supposed to be better.

I haven't tried them but I saw them at NAMM. They seemed to glow in daylight. Eye popping stuff.
