Like the musical genius tag isn't true 100% all the time (there are some serious lapses in quality), the total-nice-guy or total-nasty-guy is also not true. He became a peacenik after being a violent teddy boy, he became a doting father after being an absent one, he became a husband after being an abuser. A person starts somewhere and ends somewhere, as long as the trajectory is upwards we can call it development. Lennon is not unique in his social upbringing or his violent responses to them. I know several people who have tread the same flawed path, but they didn't write Strawberry Fields. He was special. It's not justifying it, it just is.

The gurning cruelty is in a period context, Lennon devoured The Goons. At school we used to call each other names based on what was the most awful affliction - spastic, thalidomide etc. they probably still do. We laugh most at the things that frighten us.

Like any religion, Lennon is a "thing" where we can pick and choose the bits we like or don't like and he's not here to argue with it - and that still makes me feel sad.

Again, back in the 1960s, licensing was in its infancy, and lots was done by handshake. I suspect that this is where Brian (and many others, I'm sure) shortchanged himself and his clients by letting emotions get in the way of business.

No doubt The Beatles were screwed over when it came to licensing, which is why we don't see McCartney's name on a limited edition Rickenbacker 4001.

I am sure that if John were alive today he would not be particularly proud of his impression of people with a handicap.

Slagging Yoko has become a sport here for some of our membership, but make no mistake that it has become a weary, hackneyed subject since there is little fertile land left to plough on the subject of her management of John's estate and his memory. Whether you or I believe she deserves some criticism is quite another matter. But let's not keep repeating the same old tired mantra.

Simply put, our forum is not to be used to malign or slander any individual and that includes Yoko.

Although his impression is not cool, especially in todays PC environment, I always thought that impression and other stage behavior was almost a like a nervous tick.

As for Yoko, whether you agree or disagree with her methods, (and I mostly disagree) she has done anything and everything to keep John's legacy in the front of our minds and in the back of our wallets.
