So I did it... but how long should I wait?
So I talked to Chris at POTR and pulled the trigger on a 2009 620/12 in MID. I found out from Chris that it has vintage tuners like the ones on the 660 instead of the Schallers. (According to Paul W, the factory ran out of the Schallers for a few days and decided to use the vintage ones until more came in.) With this in mind, I sprang for the vintage knobs and I had Chris do his custom TI Flats string set. I have a set of TI Flats on my 2009 330 and they sound great. Thanks to all who posted in the prior thread with their advice. It really helped.
So, the guitar shipped yesterday and will be here Friday. My question is how long I should wait to open it up? It left POTR (Lindenwold, NJ) yesterday and will arrive in Columbia, MO on Friday in the afternoon. I have charted its path and checked local tempertures along the route and it looks like the temperatures will range from mid 40's to low/mid 60's during transit. It will be in the mid 50's the day it is delivered and we keep our house at 70. As much as I want to open it when it gets here, I am happy to wait as long as is advisable.
Let me know what you think and I will go with the consensus. On the one hand, I could err on the side of caution and wait 24 hours, but I don't want to be too anal and if a few hours will do, then all the better.
Thanks all,
LEL (Jason)

Well, I had already decided to bury a potato in my backyard after a full moon to 1) get rid of a wart on my thumb & 2) protect the finish on the guitar...
Seriously thought, I have gotten all my previous guitars shipped to me in the dead of winter, so I let them all set 48 hours. With this warm spell, I figured I might be able to break it open sooner. I know other people have asked this and gotten a straight answer, so...
Besides, if I wanted to be made fun of, I could just go over to TalkBass and tell them I have a Ric and I like it!

When I got my last bass, a 4004CII, i could not wait and opened the case when it arrived: no damage or cracks. Well, I know in Italy winters are not so cold... I might suggest you to open the case in a part of your house which is not too warm...

the box the guitar leaves the factory in says to allow to sit at room temperature for 48 hours. so, there's that.

I'd say 24 should do the trick. worked out great for me, and the thing traveled from Chris all the way to (relatively) balmy southern california.

Actually, I haven't yet. I had to go out of town for the day, blew a tire, got stranded a bit and had to drive 120 miles in the rain in the dark. I just got home and was checking my email for work and figured I'd pop by here. I am so beat that I will open it up, drool, strum a few chords and hit the sack. Pathetic, isn't it? But tomorrow... oh man!!! I will try and take a break to post pics.doctorwho wrote:I'd guess that he has ... and he's too busy playing it to post!jps wrote:I sure hope you opened it up by now.![]()
Until then,
