Further back in time (to 1971)...

Post by badeggs »

Well I finally got my mitts on it:

Took the jumper off the cap (mwahaha) and put some Super Slinkies on. I guess those were TI flats (not a fan - like limp rubberbands!)...
Controls are a little strange, maybe wired funny (the pup switch seems to be BASS|BASS+TREBLE|BASS+TREBLE), but I can deal with that later this week.

This bass is incredibly sweet, a stunning finish...ran through some Yes and "Hemispheres," some Crimson, and it sounds and plays absolutely fantastic,
the lowest action and a very thin neck. Better than advertised!

I usually pick these up with some thought towards trading them "back" to something of older vintage, but it would be quite difficult to part with this one.
I got it on its stand near the TV (so I can look over at it) and I can't stop staring...

Big thanks to Kevin and the forum - without them this deal would not have been possible!

Love the burgundy! I'm gonna have to get one of those some day...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Thanks guys, glad I could help keep this one in the family!

I used to think my 480 was only a sorta-dark Burgundy, but placed next to this 4001 makes it seem much more eggplant. Not Kevin's Jan. 71 (the gold standard for that color), but close...
