I'm biased as R.E.M. fan... Peter Buck

Re: Lead Guitar Solos on 6 String Ric's
I absolutely love Peter Buck's playing, but he's not really a big "lead guitar solo" guy, and on some of the few REM songs where he plays a conventional guitar solo he often plays something other than a Rick (for example, I think he's playing a Les Paul on "The One I Love").
Off the top of my head I'd think maybe something by Mike Campbell, but he plays a lot of different guitars and I don't know which particular solos are on a 6-string Rick.

Seems to me that, if you give an example you ought to be sure it's correct - I'm now eagerly awaiting a "conventional guitar solo" by Peter Buck on another instrument than a Rickenbacker!

I obviously wasn't in the studio when they recorded Document, so I have no first hand knowledge -- I just know what I've read elsewhere:Seems to me that, if you give an example you ought to be sure it's correct
Posting a live clip doesn't contradict my claim -- Buck uses his 360 to play live all sorts of stuff he originally recorded with different guitar.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned the belief that Ricks are no good for solos, while widely held, is nonsense.

Peter Buck! How about "Kohoutek" from R.E.M.'s "Fables of the Reconstruction."

Re: Lead Guitar Solos on 6 String Ric's
Really? I know in "recent" times Jim Babjak has switched over to a Tele and Pat DiNizio to a Strat, but back in the day (at least up through 11) they were a Rickenbacker guitars->Marshall amp band. Mike Mesaros seemed to switch between a 4003 and a P-bass. I even recall at least one CD liner note from back in the day that mentioned Rickenbackers and Marshalls...hang on. OK, here it is on the liner notes for "11":sloop_john_b wrote:Mostly recorded with Strats I believe...elreydlp wrote:Anything by The Smithereens!
And in the acknowledgements (caps as they appear):Jim Babjak and Pat DiNizio play Rickenbacker Guitars through Marshall Amplifiers and Cabinets. Acoustic Guitars by Guild. Mike Mesaros plays Rickenbacker Bass guitars through Gallien-Krueger Amplifiers...
Every live clip I've seen of them up through "11" shows Pat playing his JG 350 and Jim playing his red 340. There's at least one clip with Jim playing a tuxedo 340 (or is it a 370?).and for their invaluable contribution to the making of this record: JOHN HALL AND DEREK DAVIS OF RICKENBACKER...
Another Rick lead player would be Mitch Easter...
If it is to be, it is up to me.

Charlie Sexton of the Arc Angels used to play Rics. Ditto for Ed O'Brien of Radiohead.
Re: Lead Guitar Solos on 6 String Ric's
Thanks analogpackrat! I have seen videos of them on Fenders, but the songs I've heard from the records you mention sure SOUND like they're played on Ricks. I think it's safe to say that at least some of their solos were played on Ricks.

Great video! Thanks for posting Jake.
I like the effect that Mike gets at 0:32 by waving his Rick.

Thanks Jake! I have the "Running Down a Dream" box set, and just don't watch it enough.
I'll say it-"Mike Campbell is the best guitarist in the world"-the total package!
