You goin' to 3rd Coast, Tom? Are you gonna leave the string order as-is, or reverse them?gearhed289 wrote:My card was charged last Thursday.I'm puttin that bad boy on my 4003S/8, then taking it to get slots cut on my new Teeder 8 saddle bridge. Woo hoo!

I'm gettin' a little peeved over here reading about how all you guys are getting yours. Dane even installed his already!
I had my guitar tech order one for me last Thursday morning and I haven't received a call telling me it's arrived at the shop. I feel left out of the RIHS party, especially since I started it, so to speak.
Nonetheless, I'm sure mine is in transit and I'll be enjoying mine soon enough. All good things come to those who wait. Of course if I don't have it by Friday, I'm gonna raise some hell.

All 20 of 'em!
Just kidding, I didn't order 20...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Look what the Fed-X dude just brought....
Got mine today also...thanks RIC!
I'm thinking a good home for this will be the new (to me) 06 4003AFG which Mike S had already fitted with a toasty. It will be interesting to see the difference in tone the RIHS will make.
I also seized the opportunity to get a couple of push-pull pots for some of the older members of my herd - time to get out the soldering iron!

As a side note here, as good as the RIC push-pull pots are, since they are bassically a mini-pot, they are best used in the role of volume control where the bassic quality of the pot is not as crucial. The full size pots are just a little better and therefor make better tone controls.windchimp wrote:I also seized the opportunity to get a couple of push-pull pots for some of the older members of my herd - time to get out the soldering iron!

I didn't get mine.... Oh wait, I didn't order one.
Dane, very nice. That should be a really nice player as is. Envious.
Bob, thanks for the reading - that's what the ones on my two V63s read and also the one from the C64 I got a while back. All around 10.4k ohms. Come to think of it the '93 V63 might be closer to 14.4k IIRC - both the toaster and RIHS. I'll have to remeasure.

Might go Third Coast, or I might have a guy closer to my house do it. Depends on his schedule. The strings were already reversed when I got the bass, thankfully. Whoever did it did a great job and used a white delrin-looking nut.rickaddict wrote:You goin' to 3rd Coast, Tom? Got the horseshoe yesterday. Reads 11.01 on the meter. I think I'm going to put just the pickup on my 8, and use the bezel on my 4003S.

My vote is to leave your original surround on the 4003S. IMO the HS surround just looks wrong w/o a HS pickup in it. Plus you'd have to drill 4 new holes in your beloved 4003S to install the thing. I prefer the non-scooped 70's-mid 80's surrounds (no sharp edges, no gaping hole): http://www.rickresource.com/register/us ... llsize.jpggearhed289 wrote:

Just my $.02!
Re: Look what the Fed-X dude just brought....
One thing I like to do with the repro surrounds is cut the front flange shorter like some of the original 60's surrounds and redrill the holes for the current 4003 surround location. That way you only have to drill two new holes in your bass. Jeff, I have a re-cut vintage surround on my 4008CS with a plastic cover over an HB1 and you didn't seem to mind it there
Re: Look what the Fed-X dude just brought....
That's really nice!
I feel like an idiot for not getting a grip and ordering one for myself as well.
Oh well, I'll keep on looking at Rickenbacker's website, waiting for more units to be available...
