I refer to my mapleglo 4003 as the 'butcher block'. It makes sense when you look at the backside.

When did the design go to the walnut wings on the headstock? I have a '97 MG w/maple wings.

It looked to me like someone was holding it while wearing a mitten! Everytime I shopped Wildwood's site, I couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

Pete, I think they went back to the walnut headwings in 2006, one of a few more cosmetic changes they've made recently. In 2009 (or was it 2008?) they developed a new style of full-width position markers, and just this last year, have gone to a two-piece neck construction that allows good strength and a bit thinner shape.

Congrats! I've seen a few MG's that I'd describe as looking reminiscent of plywood, but that's not the case with yours. Nice grain there!

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
