Very true, most are built for their looks, primarily.marc61 wrote:Personally, I feel there's too many ABGs out there that just aren't ABGs (meaning little acoustic value )
Re: Woods that project
ummm....no, that one is probably around 5K. Mine was less than 10% of that, Korean made, Kim Breedlove and Peter Newport inspected (supposedly). It does have some of the same features.jps wrote:This one?marc61 wrote:jps wrote:.....I purchased a Breedlove....
From reading other forums, someone made the comment that if you're just going to plug it in all the time, get yourself an Ashbory (sp?).The claim was you can get similar tomes as most ABGs.
Thinking out loud, there must be some pretty good ones in Mexico. Doesn't their music call for real acoustic bass?
*edit* - AHA! - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitarr%C3%B3n_mexicano
Believe it or not, I found a close by music store that sells these. I'm going to try one today
Re: Woods that project
Guitarróns are fine but you do have to learn the octave pluck technique to get the most out of them; also, from what I have read, the top is quite thin and prone to caving in, so they need to be replaced occasionally.
Re: Woods that project
Unfortunately the store that had them near me closed so I will have to travel further to see one in person. Makes sense about the top though.
My curiosity is how can I change and or modify the neck and bridge so they are conventional acoustic bass, using the body for it's mass?
