That's the one, like a love child mix of a cockney Foghorn Leghorn and Ethel Merman. She sinks ships.

I guess you'd better remove them then, John!

My Gibon Thunderbird and Gibson SG Basses cases have the best smell I have ever smelled to date...

Where are the RIC cases made?? I just bought a second one to compare and choose... BOTH cases smell bad!! Both bass guitars look and feel good, just ever-so-slightly different neck shapes... But the case is awful!

And, yeah, I'm sure it's the glue... Unfortunately, it ruins the experience for me. I'm not playing live as much as I'd like, but will be recording quite a bit in the coming months (thankfully!)... But not with either of these 2, unfortunately! I don't want to deal with the case problem... I'll be returning them Tuesday or Wednesday...

Any interest in either @ $1750 shipped (Coninental US)?

You're in the minority, Scott...most of us like the RIC case smell.

The cases are made in the USA. Unless they've changed the glue formula lately, it's the same pleasant "new Rick" smell that we've all come to know and enjoy.

A Custom shop Fender will have the same smell, as will many of the AVRI Fenders, and gosh knows how many other brands of guitars out there; RIC's case manufacturer uses the same glue as most other USA case companies.

Sorry it didn't work out for you... :(

So I just went down the hall, opened my ten-day old (in my hands, at any rate) Ric case, from whence sprang my new MG 370/12, and took a sniff...

Mild aroma of glue, slight overtones of varnish, and an overpowering finish of the Ric cleaning cloth solution. I've been keeping the cloth in the case without putting it into a baggie first, and the chemistry impregnated into it (John Hall, if you're about can you let us in on what is loaded onto those yellow pieces of felt (?) prior to shipping?) has permeated the nice soft fuzz inside the case. It is quite a pungent, petroleum-like odor- but the cleaning cloth is to blame, at least in my ...er, case.

So I wonder- is the OP simply smelling the cleaning solution?? If so, a baggie (for the cloth) and some fresh air will clear it out pdq..
