Well, they're not stating that Big Star is performing. It's a tribute.

Personally I think it's terrific that some excellent musicians who have been so inspired by Big Star's music will sounds the music tonight.

If anyone is reading who has not heard Big Star recordings, I would suggest "Back of a Car" to set you off. Crispy timeless production. Somewhere someone wrote that the songs had a feel of that they were all just about to fall apart but never do, or my impression of... a power tube section in an old tube amp about to go but doesn't... 8)

I think I will bust out my old Sneakers compilation today Mitch! have fun tonight!

Thanks for the clarification! I should stop reading posts late at night! Wish I could see it!

Please...I need to use my glasses (which I never do). I'm always mis-reading posts. So it's all good.

Apparently this was all put together by Chris Stamey. Besides being a huge fan of Big Star, and founding member of the truly influenced Dbs, he played in Alex's band in the late 70s. Chris was actually on his was way to Texas where Alex Chilton was to tell him of the tribute right before Alex died.

Although no Rickenbackers were used last night, I can only describe the sound as "Glorious".

In my Robert DeNiro Goodfellas voice "Here's a little taste" . Apologies in advance for the bad angle and I missed the beginning. A few other clips from the night are on my channel as well

Funny you mention "Sneakers"...I bought the compilation and there are some really catchy tunes on it. It's really amazing, thinking of how young they must have been, to put together what I think is a pretty complex piece of work.
