Re: Two soundholes?
Yeah, I posted one in February or March 2006, but can't find it now. I think it was in one of the old COY threads.
Anyway, I'm nearly finished building one right now for an RRF buddy, and it's not too far off from Werner's idea, but I think it's a bit more elegant of a solution.

Will be interesting to see what you've made, Paul. How far off from finishing that project are you when you say almost finished?
In the meantime I just photoshop along

I redid the knob lay-out a bit - I can't really make up my mind where they would be placed best... then I redid the knob position AGAIN, back to more or less how I started out and removed the scratchplate - had to edit several layers for that!

Re: Two soundholes?
That's like the Eddie Van Halen version of a Rick; one p/up; and minimal controls. Now you guys have me considering the mod. . . .8mileshigh wrote:Here's an old version I posted 3 or 4 years ago...........poor photoshop skills, but you get the idea![]()

a two control layout would look better imoWildberry wrote:I redid the knob lay-out a bit - I can't really make up my mind where they would be placed best... then I redid the knob position AGAIN, back to more or less how I started out and removed the scratchplate - had to edit several layers for that!
what about the gap where the controls are now? MG or another translucent finish would be out of the question no?

It would depend on how tight the seam was and how closely matched the grain was.wim wrote:a two control layout would look better imoWildberry wrote:I redid the knob lay-out a bit - I can't really make up my mind where they would be placed best... then I redid the knob position AGAIN, back to more or less how I started out and removed the scratchplate - had to edit several layers for that!

Re: Two soundholes?
Wim, I doubt a translucent or natural finish would be great on such a mod, unless the factory would start producing this double soundhole lay-out, of course. The current hole beneath the scratcplate would have to be filled, which will be difficult enough as it is, especially as a new soundhole has to be made into it, plus in some of the top.
As for the controls, I kept the full control array - two would of course look better, but I opted for full control possibilities.

Here's a one-pick-up, two control version.

Re: Two soundholes?
Nice concepts, here. Try a jazz box version with a neck pickup and place the two controls parallel to the sound hole between the sound hole and bridge. I'd also like to see a four control one, just lose the blend knob, kind of like this:

Not sure if I understood correctly, but you mean something like this, Jeffrey?jps wrote:place the two controls parallel to the sound hole between the sound hole and bridge

Now there's a good idea, Erik! But then it's general knowledge I'm biased against solidbody instrumentsSpike- wrote:![]()
