I've just purchased an '87 360/6 JG which I'm very pleased with, I just have a query about the wiring that hopefully someone can help me with - I'm not sure if it's a fault or if it's how it's supposed to be but I'm 99% sure it wasn't like this on a newer 360 I used to own: Assuming that all knobs are turned up fully (fully clockwise) and the toggle switch is in the middle position then I should hear 100% bridge pickup and zero neck pickup. If I turn the 5th knob all the way counter clockwise then I should hear 100% neck pickup and zero bridge pickup, is this correct? On mine this is only true for the bridge pickup (toggle down sounds the same as toggle middle with 5th knob fully clockwise - as expected) but with the toggle in the middle and the 5th knob fully counter-clockwise I don't get 100% neck pickup - it sounds different from when the toggle is up. Also the 5th knob affects the sound when the toggle is up (neck position), surely this is wrong? I thought the 5th knob only made a difference with the toggle in the middle? My understanding is that the fifth knob is just a second volume pot wired in series with the main volume pot with the third pole not grounded, and that the signal from the neck pickup runs through it whenever the neck p/u is active (i.e., when the toggle switch is in the up or middle positions). So it affects the neck pickup volume in both switch positions. Further, when the switch is in the middle position all it does is affect the relative volume of the neck p/u as compared to the bridge p/u. It doesn't affect the bridge p/u volume at all, nor does it cut the neck p/u out entirely when turned all the way off (as it would if it were grounded). As far as I know the fifth knob has always been wired this way (but I may well be wrong).
