X-Ray Spex
Been watching a bit of the brilliant X-Ray Spex on Youtube.
I got into their classic debut some years back - there's some nice bass work on there too.
More importantly, Paul Dean (the bassman) was mostly seen playing (I think) an Azureglo 4001. I saw a very early clip of them and he had a different bass, so can maybe assume that he purchased his Ric with the bands advance from Virgin records!
Also, must give some respect to Poly Styrene. She's currently fighting cancer - she's in a hospice about 25 minutes from me. Only in her early 50's...let's all hope she makes a full recovery.
In the meantime, check out the band in their prime!

Re: X-Ray Spex
That's great, really interesting.
She actually appeared on our local BBC news evening programme this week as well to tell of her battle.
Really hope she can beat this, especially as the XR Spex guitarist, Jak Airport, also died of cancer a few years ago.
Makes you appreciate your health, and realise how we all take it a little for granted....

Here's hoping that Poly will pull through - we already lost Ari Up last year to cancer.
Re: X-Ray Spex
Saw them somewhere in London in mid/late '78 as a very young teenager. Can't remember if they were supporting or top of the bill, but it was a long time ago and alcohol was definitely a factor!
Best's to Poly...

I was sorry to hear of her passing. Bob, I saw X Ray Specs in Boston with Willie Alexander back in the day.
