Purpleburst? Blueburst with Bad Photography?

Post by electrofaro »

Surfing the electronic waves I crashed into this, floating around on the web.

What colour is this supposed to be?

Ben Hall once confirmed here that a limited number of 360s and 370s came out of the factory with FWIs. Pretty rare and very cool. I've only seen a couple of them, but I like them...nothing nasty about them at all.

Put a 480 in the same colour and Erik will like it as well, Mark

I think a light burst like this blue fits the 360 shape well!

If I were into purple, I think I'd want a more color saturated, deeper shade of purple, starting with a very, very dark purple, almost (but not quite) black.

The lead photo resembles the "purpleburst" factory run of bluebursts, about 8 guitars, in 2006. BBR with a bit of red in the mix, IMO. BBR doesn't do well with indoors photography -- the photos tend to look mildly purplish.

There are other, more vivid, purple Ricks out there. One is a custom job by PW:

Another is a one-off by the RIC Factory outlet:

I could swear the explanation for the purplebursts was that they came out of the painting process in that color by accident...and that no one who got one requested a respray!

But I could be mistaken...

Hey, Jeff, you are correct. The 8 production purplebursts were a RIC factory accident, not deliberate. According to someone at the factory, they noticed the difference, looked them over and decided to put them into circulation as bluebursts. I bought one on ebay from a guy who didn't like the way his BBR turned out. I didn't know it at the time, but it was a purpleburst. Here's a compare to a "standard" BBR (on right):
330 Purpleburst + BBR 2006

I believe I have that purpleburst 330 on the left......it's funny, unless you have another blueburst beside it, it's really not
that noticeable. I've also got that purpleburst 350, Jim.......awesome guitar and the paint is somewhat metallic......very cool!
