Brand new to the family

Post by emswife »

I know I am not the only person who got this great deal yesterday at GC but I managed to walk away with a 325C58-MG with case, tax included, for only $825.00.

I love the guitar and will post a photo when I get to the other computer.

Question is: there is an upcoming guitar show in Dallas. Should I take the 325 there and try to trade it for a 360 Jet Glo (the Ric I really want) and $1100 cash. This seems reasonable to me but I am brand new to this game.

I bought the 325 as an investment. I would get back what a paid plus some (which would please the wife) and also get the guitar I really wanted to start with but that wasn't on sale.

Am I doing the right thing?

Patrick, this is only my opinion and perspective, so take it with a grain of salt.

The difference in list prices between the 325c58 and the 360 is $1650. Getting $1100 cash with the trade sounds OK to me, although I might go as low as half of the difference ($825) if needed - after all, the idea is to get the guitar you want, right? It probably would be worth starting the negotiating on the high side and lowering the number to a point where you are comfortable.

Congrats on your 325! Here are my thoughts on this, however.

$1100 in cash? I don't think anyone will bite (especially at a guitar show, where folks are looking for great deals). Maybe a month ago, but not after that sale everybody's heard about by now.

Think of it like this: My Rick 360 JG cost me $1045, with tax it was just under $1200. If I then gave you $1100 on top of that for your 325, I would be into it for $2300. That's alot for a used 325, especially considering I can buy another 325c58 for $2199.00 brand new at music123.com (tax free with no shipping charge), or a leftover Guitar Center 325 for their regular $1799 price (that's $500 less then you are asking with your trade).

Also, with that extra $1100 I would pay you, I could keep my 360 JG, fork over an extra $150, and pay $1250 for one of the "Buy It Now" Ebay 325's from the GC sale.

Seeing as you paid $825 for the 325c58, and 360's are still at around $1050 (and most surely won't be on crazy sale any time soon), I think an even trade (or even a couple hundred dollars) would be more fitting. You'd still be saving $225 off of the $1050 360 JG with a straight up trade.

Just my thoughts, CS
