Interesting, it looks like there is no finish on the fingerboard.

Based on a peek at the enlarged version of the photo it looks more like a badly corroded G string to me Rob. The guitar may indeed be a Rickenbacker. It's really tough to say for sure.

It's funny because my picks are fine but that's how the tips of my fingers look after a few hours.

Do any Jacksons have binding?

I don't think I've seen a Jackson with binding but admit I am no Jackson connoisseur.
