Interesting. My '84 4003 case isn't like that. It doesn't completely form fit the body, but has a "ledge" that the bottom edge of the body fits under and only fits the very lower end.inhuien wrote:Case 2 is an identical match for my 84 4003 case.
What year (approx.) is this 4001 case?

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Case #2 is my favorite type. I've seen those from the late 70's to late 80's. Some had a black lining. Black lining seems more common to the late 80's.
Case #1 does not necessarily look RIC to me.

While DeCuir Sample Case was certainly one of the three suppliers of our cases in the late 70's through the late 80's, I personally don't recall ever seeing one with their logo on the compartment handle.
That doesn't mean one slipped through somehow but our specs wouldn't have permitted a maker's label. Very occasionally we've gotten cases or keywinds with other makers logos by accident, since there's a few suppliers we've shared at various times, but these would be rejected or returned.
Don't forget, also, that in the past we offered two styles of case, Deluxe and Standard. While the features varied from time to time, the distinction was that Deluxe cases had compartments and/or were fitted, had leatherette end trim and handles, and better locks.

Case # 2 is also my favorite. That's what I keep the '71 Burg 21 fretter in instead of the original.

John,I thought that in the 70's and 80's that the case came with the bass and was not an extra. Therefore if that was the case(no pun intended)What designated standard from Deluxe?
Re: What year (approx.) is this 4001 case?
Case 2 is what my March '73 4001 came in when I bought it in '07.
Re: What year (approx.) is this 4001 case?
I have a silver tolex Rickenbacker vintage case in VG to NM condition and would love to swap with someone's form-fitted case #2 in the same condition.
Re: What year (approx.) is this 4001 case?
I remember my 79 came in a form fitted case (orange felt for those taking notes). When I finally paid it off and went to pick up the bass, the store owner tried to charge me $75 extra for it but, his worker said "hey the case came it it"

They did not ship as standard until the later part of the 80's.2ndHand72Rick wrote:John,I thought that in the 70's and 80's that the case came with the bass and was not an extra. Therefore if that was the case(no pun intended)What designated standard from Deluxe?
Also, I indicated already the difference between standard and deluxe.
