New member and new addition to the thread. My first Ric turns 31 this month and we’ve been together since.

This was my first professional quality guitar, ordered new in San Jose and I remember anxiously waiting (I think about a month at that time) like a kid at Christmas. In addition to all the fun playing back then, it’s followed me across country and remains one of my favorites. After a lifetime of roundwounds, the neck’s still straight, plays great and it’s body has aged far more gracefully than mine.

As it’s been my baby since birth, so no real stories of general interest but I did notice something that brought back some fond memories. At that time, there was a huge pit behind the east bay BART station. In Winter, this would fill with water that would come up to the floor pan of my truck. We would wear a two-track into the mud around the base of the pit, then put the truck in low, climb out the windows and sit in the back drinking beer while the truck waded through the water on its own with no one inside, following the tire ruts under water. Okay, I know … but Disneyland was a long drive away…

One night on the way to band practice, the drummer and I stopped by and plowed through the mud for a while …with my poor Rick in the back. By the time we were done, both of us, the truck and my guitar case were covered in mud (somewhere I got a pic of that). Thankfully, not a drop inside.

I noticed when I took these pics, all these years later, there’s still remnants of that night on the case. Ah, ..the good old days…

With that, my 4001 has bought me an anniversary scotch …and here’s to you John wherever you may be. Cheers!
Next month sibling turns 45!

Thanks all. This thread has been a great read ...except it's rekindling MG and FG lust (hide the checkbook!).

Always love to see that slab o' bird's eye! Is that a '73?

And is that black binding I'm seeing on the cat's eye hole of that 6 string?

Cat's eye... bird's eye... there's a gag there somewhere; just can't pull out anything good right now.

Almost half a week went by since the new month.... How could we let this happen? ;-)

My april ('81) fool:

It was a joke when I got it. Neckpocket was wrong, neck sat in crooked. Caused too high stringheight. But since my/a luthier fixed that I enjoy playing this one very much. :)
