Why no 500's?

Browsing through the excellent Register I noticed that Rickenbacker have never produced any kind of model with an associated number in the 500's. I wonder why. Superstition? Saving it for something special?

Sure they did. There were the Console 500 Series steel guitars...

Well, they do actually refer to several models without using the "Console" prefix in the old catalogs...
