Pickup Covers

Post by Matt Clark »

Does anyone know if the chrome cover of a RIC humbucking pickup is the same as a RIC high gain single coil. And, is that still true for the old black covers?

I'm considering replacing my high gains with humbuckers but want to swap the black covers from my single coils.

Depending on the year yes. I have had some high gain and toasters that were not as tall as currently made. The later ones have 4 dimples on the bottom aluminum plate that pushes the pickup into the cover. I'm sure you can make your project work.

Yes, I agree it depends on the year. The new ones seem to be the same. The old high-gain covers (of which I have 5 - 360-12WB & 320) seem to be toaster covers with the center ground out. As to when the change occurred? I don't know.
