As promised in the MARF 2010 thread, here are some detailed photos of the double-bound Fireglo 4005/8 I scratchbuilt for Graham Griffiths, per his order and with permission from John Hall. Graham had sent a 4005 to me to restore, which was too far gone to do anything with (butchered body, short-scale, neck, wrong fretboard, etc.). With JH's permission, I re-used most of the hardware and wiring from the donor 4005, including the TRC and all-important jackplate with its serial number.

The original donor instrument will be destroyed. One passes on, one is born to take its place:

I especially love the back of the headstock--it looks like an explosion in a hardware store...

Oh, yes...when I finished it, I plugged it into my '67 Dual Showman.

Dalia called me from Brazil about twenty seconds after I started, and said the neighbors there were complaining.

I am not in love with the headstock shape, (I have an ingrained preference for the more typical Rick bass headstock style) but the rest of it is amazing. Well done Paul and congrats Graham. That is a stunning bass.

VERY nice build with nice wood grain and a beautiful burst of FG. The headstock hardware looks like a lot - how does it balance? I too bet this has authority and tone. Lucky Graham!
