Laredos with Gold Trim???

Post by jack1953 »

I'm not even going to comment on the asking price, but rather I did not know that they made the Laredo with gold trim im 1995, or is this a typo?

The seller looks like he replaced the chrome hardware with gold hardware, plus he has a white TRC...

Actually, from the quality of the flamed maple, I'd say it is mis-identified and is really a Cheyenne II. Laredo basses don't have the flame.

Yeah, but a '95 Laredo would surely have a maple fingerboard, and I don't see the walnut sandwich. But if there's one thing for certain about Rickenbackers, is that anything's possible! :D

The Cheyenne II didn't come along until 2000 (maybe late 1999), and all but for a developmental one at the RIC museum have bubinga fretboards. This is clearly a Laredo with the hardware swapped out. I suppose it's possible that a special customer or a special dealer ordered it with gold hardware, but more likely an owner found a Cheyenne owner who preferred chrome and simply swapped straight across. I've done it.

It says it is a Larado. So evidently a new model and it must come with gold Larado trim.
