I think a 650 with it's maple fretboard painted black would be a cool project. When I first saw this 425, I thought it was a 650. If this is what Luke and Darth look like, I'd like to see Princess Lea

Another knock out punch, Paul. I have always thought that 425 bridge was ahead of its time.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

And I hear it's tight

but now I might be mistaken.

Will it end up short scale or long scale? i.e. how long will his um, fretboard lengthen? But then, it won't be a fretboard as he grows, will it.

Technically, you're right, of course, John.
I've always made the distinction between "fingerboards" (string instruments without frets, like violins, violas, cellos, and double basses), and "fretboards" (fretted instruments of all sorts).
This bass, being fretless, has a fingerboard.

Whilst I usually try to resist being crude, all I can say is: that guitar is the dog's doodahs Paul!

Re: A LONG TIME AGO, IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY...
For consistency, I've used "fingerboard" on all mentions in my book. So I have a "20-fret fingerboard" or a "fretless fingerboard" instead of the redundant-sounding "20-fret fretboard" and "fretless fretboard."
